Bass Pro Shops has signed a letter of intent to lease a 200,000 ft.² retail store at the The Point in New York, which will be one of the largest new mixed-use developments in the US.
This latest store will be the company's largest in the north-east, encompassing the equivalent of five football fields. It will include wildlife dioramas, large aquariums, waterfalls and museum quality fish, showcasing the huge range of outdoor gear produced by the company.
Johnny Morris, founder of Bass Pro Shops says "We are excited to be part of this project with a larger store in the North East."
James Savard, Senior Vice President of O'Neill Properties says “Leading retailers such as Bass Pro Shops are once again moving forward to complete significant deals, but only in areas that are ideally positioned for them.”
The Point is just 30 miles outside Manhattan and minutes away from Staten Island. It will include luxury retail, waterfront and recreation destinations and 2,000 high-end residential units, as well as 650,000 ft.² of office space, luxury hotels and two luxury marinas. The whole development totals 8,000,000 ft.².
Brian O'Neill, founder and chairman of the O'Neill Properties Group says "The Point will be a pedestrian friendly community providing visitors and residents alike with a lifestyle experience unequalled in the Tri-State area." The estimated cost for The Point will be around $2 billion.
The site covers 453 acres along 3 miles of waterfront on the Raritan River and is close to 24 lanes of highway in one of the most affluent and densely populated regions of the US. Once completed, it's expected to attract over 30 million visitors annually.
The first phase of the mixed-use development will be The Landing at The Point, comprising of a 620,000 ft.² retail center, with the first retail tenant expected by 2013. The Mall at The Point will have luxury fashion department stores, retail stores and a wide choice of restaurants. It will embrace the latest technology to help facilitate the shopping experience.
