Research
Do an internet search to determine the cost of living in the area. Find out where everything is; stores, schools, public transportation, and recreational types of activities. Learn if there are high crime areas to avoid. Taking the time to investigate where you’re planning on living can lead to a happy future for you and your family.
Apartment Life
Apartment living in a big city is much different from life in the suburbs. Since there is much more exposure to culture, the arts, and entertainment, it is exciting and there is always something fun to do. Most of these activities are within walking distance. Many apartment buildings include a variety of amenities such as pools and gyms. A lot of them come with a refrigerator, dishwasher, and microwave. Some even come furnished. Making new social connections is important after moving to a new place. Another big advantage of life in an apartment is the lack of having to maintain a yard. Downsize
Save some time and money getting rid of anything and everything you can. Give it away to friends, donate it, or throw it away. If you haven’t used it for a year, chances are you don’t need to take it with you. What’s the point of packing superfluous items that will get thrown out in the near future anyway? Organize
Pack what you will need to carry with you when you travel, such as an address book that includes emergency contact information, Birth Certificates, Bank information, Diplomas, Degrees, and Resumes. Put them in a centralized location so they are easy to retrieve. Expandable file folders are great to use for this because of their portability. It's a good idea to have a week’s worth of clothes and toiletries in a small suitcase.
Whether moving to a new apartment in a big city is due to necessity or out of preference, it offers the path to a new beginning. It's an adventure that can lead to a lifetime of memories.
