Nice bathrooms don't have to cost the earth
If you’ve been waiting till your inheritance from Aunt Gertrude rolls in (and she just bungee jumped off the Brooklyn Bridge last week) then perhaps you’re under the illusion that it costs way too much money to have a lovely oasis to call your own?
There’s a simple solution to what ails your bathroom - remodel! “But I have no money,” you wail...sipping your $5 latte between sobs...
Depending upon your bathroom’s current physical state, it can be much cheaper to pull together a bathroom remodel, than say six months to a year’s worth of your twice weekly $5 coffee excursion.
You can spend thousands of dollars on a bathroom remodel of course, but why spend more than you absolutely must? Unless your bathroom is really unusable you’d be surprised what can be accomplished with just a little ingenuity.
Often, the vanity is the focal point of the bathroom, as a tub or shower is normally hidden behind a curtain or shower doors. If you are blessed with a vanity made of solid wood, then your job has just gotten easier. Depending upon its condition, chances are good that a simple light sanding and beautiful stain and/or varnish along with new, eye catching door pulls and hinges will make it look like brand new.
If you’re like many individuals in newer homes, chances are good that you’ve got pressed board cabinets with veneer coverings. If this is the case, and there is paint over the veneer, it will probably be pretty easy to remove the paint, however do so carefully to avoid damaging the veneer.
Instead of repainting, consider covering the vanity in a vinyl wallpaper whose design fits with the scheme of the bathroom. HGTV has some really neat tutorials about restoring vanities rather than replacing them.
Assuming your toilet, tub and shower are in good repair, do a quick paint job on the walls, and perhaps even install new linoleum tile flooring (which is very easy to install) and you’ve successfully turned your boring old bathroom into a place you love to walk into every morning. Heck, even Aunt Gertie might approve!
