leakSMART, the leading water leak detection solution, has officially integrated with smart home platform Wink, to eliminate the threat of preventable water damage in homes.

Wink makes it easy for people to monitor, control, and automate their smart home by bringing together hundreds of products, including lighting, door locks and sensors, onto one platform. Now, Wink users can also control their home’s main water supply within the same platform.

Matt McGovren, vice president of business development and marketing for Wink, described how the collaboration simplifies home automation for consumers.

“Wink brings best-in-class products from trusted brands together to enable a simple, comprehensive smart home experience,” McGovren said. “The addition of leakSMART does that by giving consumers complete peace of mind, knowing their homes are protected from any threat of water damage. It’s a perfect complement to our ecosystem of Wink-compatible security and monitoring devices.”

The leakSMART Valve and wireless and waterproof leakSMART Sensors are a unique addition to Wink’s ecosystem of compatible products. With leakSMART and Wink, homeowners eliminate the threat of water damage in their homes by using this system to automatically shut off the water supply as soon as a leak is detected. They’re also alerted of leaks with visual and audible alarms, as well as via smart device app alerts and notifications.

In addition to leak detection and automatic water shut-off, consumers can set up alerts within the Wink app so they are notified when their leakSMART Valve and/or Sensor(s) are offline or running low on batteries.

JaNette Barnett, vice president of marketing and sales for Waxman Consumer Products Group – leakSMART’s parent company – highlighted the importance of the leakSMART and Wink partnership.

“Water damage is much more common than you’d think, especially during the cold winter months,” Barnett said. “Freezing water pipes burst, often causing devastating water damage. And that’s on top of the everyday damage that leaky appliances or fixtures cause. Research shows that a small, one-eighth-inch crack in a pipe can leak more than 200 gallons of water into a home in less than 24 hours. Now, Wink users can install leakSMART – the patented, must-have connected home device – into their homes and say goodbye to these water worries.”

Wink users can simply install leakSMART by connecting the Valve to the home’s main water supply and by placing the sensors strategically throughout the home. Typically, homeowners place them near appliances, plumbing fixtures, and pipe seams. Then, the paired system will automatically and immediately shut off the home’s main water source if any of the sensors detect a leak.

The Wink system and leakSMART are available online and at The Home Depot and other select retailers nationwide.
