Executive Diego Ojeda accepted the award on behalf of 1450 Brickell developer, Rilea Group and said "1450 Brickell's distinction as ‘Most Outstanding LEED CS Project’is a reflection of our firm's commitment to environmentally sound design and construction. The green building movement isn't the future-it's the present. And those who choose not to embrace it will get left behind."

The office tower was the first in Miami to achieve LEED Gold status and earned its certification in 2010. The 35 storey building features a range of energy efficient strategies and technologies that enhance the productivity and health of tenants while reducing waste and promoting environmental sustainability. These include a UV blocking curtain wall window system made of large missile impact glass, AC/heat sensors which manage electricity consumption in more than 6,000 places throughout the building, low flow water fixtures and preferred parking spaces for low emission vehicles.

The Honorable Manny Diaz, former Mayor of the city of Miami was the keynote speaker at the event and acknowledged Rilea Group’s commitment to green building saying “Local developer Alan Ojeda understands the benefits that green construction has on his bottom line. He gets it and is committed to doing what he can to save the planet."

The USGBC South Florida's Galaverde Awards honor outstanding projects, dedicated individuals and inspirational businesses and instrumental chapter members who are helping to build a more sustainable environment in the South Florida community. The South Florida chapter covers eight counties and has 109 Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design-certified projects in the region.

1450 Brickell is a 35 story, 582,817 ft.² Class A office tower in the Brickell Financial District.
