Most renters are eying homeownership

By Mike Wheatley | October 19, 2015

Most renters are keen to own a home at the earliest available opportunity, according to a new study laid out by Realtor.com. According to them, some 32 percent of renters are thinking to buy a home within the next two years, while 89 percent believe that owning a home is a fundamental aspect of the American Dream.

The results of Realtor.com's analysis of data from comScore seems to agree with an opinion piece by Realtor.com's chief economist Jonathan Smoke, who argues that millenials are no different from other generations when it comes to the idea of buying a home.

Indeed, the data shows that 65 percent of millenials aged between 21 and 34 looked at apps or websites related to real estate in August.

That's the premise of the following infographic from MGIC Investment Corp., which gives a number of useful but little-known facts about renters.

According to MGIC, most renters would like to become homeowners, which suggests mortgage professionals and real estate agents alike shouldn't miss the opportunity to reach out to them.
