One in a Million - Finding the Perfect Home for You

By Guest Author | June 23, 2016

Buying a home is one of the most expensive decisions you will ever make. Out of all the homes on the market, how can you be sure to select the one that’s right for you? Ask yourself these questions so you can purchase with confidence.

Where Do You Want To Live?

Location is one of the most important considerations when home shopping. Large cities will have suburbs and neighborhoods that can be very different from one another, and even smaller towns can have distinct areas where it may be more desirable to live, like close to a school or park. Once you’ve settled on a specific town or city, explore several neighborhoods to see which one is right for you. Do you want stores and restaurants within walking distance, or would you prefer somewhere with a little more space and privacy? It’s important to take these factors into consideration when selecting your neighborhood. Test out the commute during peak traffic times as well to make sure it’s feasible for you and your needs.

How Much House Can You Afford?

If you don’t have a budget yet, create one immediately. This will give you an idea of how much you can afford to spend on your home. Finding a home lender that can work with you to secure a mortgage is crucial, so make this an important part of your process. Some companies, like Succeed at Eagle, know just how important mortgages are to consider when buying a home. You must account for things like a down payment, PMI costs, property taxes, and homeowner’s insurance as well. This will give you a true idea of how much you have to spend on your mortgage.

What Kind of Home Do You Want?

Do you love sprawling ranches with open floor plans, or have you always dreamed of owning a traditional two-story with a large backyard for entertaining? Make a list of your wants and needs so you can work with your realtor to narrow down your choices and find something you love. Keep an open mind when touring houses and remember that things like wall color and flooring are easy to change, but the size and layout of the house are usually set in stone unless you want to spend a lot of money for pricey additions or renovations.

Although buying a house can seem like a daunting task, stay positive about this journey. Weigh your options carefully and make smart decisions that will work with your lifestyle so you can enjoy your home for many years to come.
