RE/MAX Broker-Owner Jenniffer Lee Helps Florida Homeowners Prepare for Hurricane Season

By Press Release | August 12, 2017

Florida Realtor Jenniffer Lee, Broker-Owner of RE/MAX Complete Solutions, lists the top three tips on how to safeguard a home against a hurricane.

The 2017 Atlantic hurricane season, which began on June 1 and runs through November 30, is forecast to be more active than historical averages with regard to the number of named storms. In fact, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is predicting 11 to 17 named storms, as well as between five to nine hurricanes and two to four major storms.

“Your home is most likely your largest investment, and protecting it from a natural disaster should be your top priority this hurricane season,” said RE/MAX Complete Solutions Broker-Owner Jenniffer Lee. “Fortunately, there are measures that can be taken to better fortify any home against a hurricane.”

In order to help Floridians safeguard their homes against hurricanes and major storms, Lee lists the following three tips.

No. 1: Seal the roof, windows and doors. A home’s roof is the largest potential opening of the house, and its first line of defense from a storm. “It is imperative it is in sound condition so wind and water don’t get through during a hurricane. Homeowners can even have their roofs strapped down with hurricane straps or clips,” stressed Lee. “Additionally, check the seals around windows and doors and use caulk to seal them if needed to prevent wind-driven rain from getting into the house, as well as install storm shutters.”

No. 2: Secure porches and carports. Porches and carports, if dislodged during a hurricane, can rip a hole in one’s house. “Make sure all supporting posts are firmly anchored,” noted Lee. “If they aren’t, have them fixed immediately.”

No. 3: Clear the area around the house. “Lawn furniture, garden gnomes, grills, toys or any other object left outside can become missiles if picked up by hurricane winds,” concluded Lee.
