It has been ten years since Rick Otton introduced the concept of property options to the UK property investing public, and during this time he has seen many other self-proclaimed property and investment gurus come and go.
Rick Otton explained saying “I created my property options process for buying and selling real estate in the USA back in 1991, right in the middle of the Savings & Loans Crisis, when no one could get a loan to buy property. But I wanted to purchase, so I found work- arounds that allowed me to do just that, legally and without bank involvement.”
In the years since Mr Otton has refined and grown his real estate investing techniques, amassing an extensive property portfolio in the US, the UK and Australia. In 2003 he introduced his ‘property options’ to the UK property investing public.
According to Rick Otton, “The Australian and UK systems of buying and selling real estate are similar, so it wasn’t difficult to apply to the UK what I was doing in Australia. In 2008 I then launched my ‘Buy A House For A Pound’ strategies, upon which my team and I continue to build.”
Otton has coached many thousands of people in the UK on how they can build solid real estate investing businesses through providing both buyers and sellers with what they need, and streamlining the process by the cutting out the middleman, the banks. Although he is sometimes flattered to see others in the UK espouse his methods of buying and selling property, he is also concerned as he feels there is the likelihood they may fall behind on mentoring techniques that would allow the students to prosper.

Mr Otton received his start in alternative real estate investment in 1991 in the US, and within 12 months had 76 properties. In the following years he made a fortune using low risk, high reward strategies enabling him to inexpensively acquire real estate, something he continues to do. He spends his time traveling between his home in Australia and the UK teaching others how to buy and sell real estate, free from the constraints imposed by traditional lenders.
