The Top 3 Most Intriguing Smart Home Technologies in 2018

By Ben Shepardson | March 16, 2018

In case you haven't been paying attention, incredible new smart home technology systems have been coming at us in waves over the last few years. In fact, their arrivals are so fast and furious that it can be hard to keep track of them all. Don't worry though, because there's help out there. Here are the 3 most intriguing smart home technology systems that have emerged so far in 2018.

Smart Homes

Multifamily Real Estate Equipped with CASPAR Smart Technology

Recently, the innovative Wolff Company removed the curtain on an apartment complex that's fully equipped with CASPAR smart home technology. CASPAR has been designing impressive smart technology for individual residences for many years, but this new partnership is among the first to apply their systems to multifamily dwellings and seems like a sign of what's to come in the immediate future.

Soon, residents at the Annadel apartment complex in Santa Rosa, CA will be able to choose from a variety of smart home technology services as part of their rental agreement. With choices that include residential favorites like voice assistant, automated lighting, remote temperature control, and full connectivity with portable devices, tenants will have access to the same convenience and safety options available to single-family homes.

Atlanta's First Smart Neighborhood

By the end of the year, the first smart neighborhood in Atlanta will have its grand opening. A joint venture of Georgia Power and PulteGroup, Inc., this Upper West Side development will offer smart home technologies that are integrated both within and between its different properties. The two companies have partnered with smart tech vendors like Alarm.com, Sunverge Energy, and Hannah Solar to offer homeowners a shared space of safety, convenience, and energy savings.

The homes in this development will come pre-equipped with familiar single-home amenities like remote monitoring, personal device connectivity, and multiple systems integration, but the individual systems will be interconnected with those in the rest of the neighborhood as well. This will enable residents to share data, piggyback on collective smart energy sources, and become part of a community unlike any they've ever imagined.

The Amazon Cloud Cam Receives Rave Reviews

While the other two stories involved collective applications of already existing devices, The Amazon Cloud Cam represents an advance on a device for the individual home. The Amazon Cloud Cam came out at the end of 2017, but it's gained more and more traction since its release, largely on the strength of a series of great reviews on several prestigious tech sites. The low cost doesn't hurt either-- at $120, the Amazon Cloud Cam amounts to high-resolution indoor surveillance at a bargain basement price.

The camera offers a live feed at 1080p of high definition resolution. It also features a sensitive motion detector that sends automatic alerts to Amazon Cloud subscribers. But with its $120 price tag and easy, DIY installation, what really sets The Amazon Cloud Cam apart is its free 24-hour clip storage. Although Amazon Cloud subscribers can increase the amount of footage that's retained, the free 24-hour storage feature more than makes up for the Amazon Cloud Cam's lack of local storage.

As you can see, tech lovers have a lot to be excited about this year. With projects like these three underway, the world's already become more connected than it's ever been before and there seems to be no ceiling to what smart home technology can eventually accomplish.

    1. The smart security system can prevent our sweet home safe from intruders. Burglars favor garages as a method to get into your house because of the ease of access. That's why I have replaced my old garage door opener to Chamberlain wd962kev which features rolling-code technology where the codes expire after a few seconds.
