4 SEO Tactics That Realtors Need to Know

Imagine that you’ve started a new real estate website. Or maybe you decided to reinvest in an old site. You’ve invested thousands of dollars in the design. You’ve researched the competition, and you’re confident your website is much more functional (not to mention beautiful) than their website. You’re on your way to discovering streets of gold.

That was six months ago. Since then, there’s been little success and lots of frustration. The traffic just isn’t showing up like you expected it to. Your designer did a marvelous job. Your rivals are waiting to be dominated. What’s the problem? It turns out it’s your SEO. Don’t let this happen to you. Here are four SEO trends that realtors need to know.

Start Small: Use Modest Keywords

Dominating SEO is kind of like baseball. What happens when a baseball prospect is drafted? He goes to the minor leagues, perhaps Single A or Double A. He gets easy wins. Then, and only then, he attempts to chew on major league pitching. SEO is the same way. It’s hard for new websites to rank for difficult keywords. That’s because if the content quality is the same, Google gives the nod to established websites. It’s unfair, but it’s how these major search engines do things. Once you have a few wins under your belt, then it’s easier to have success with higher level keywords. Use tools like the Keyword Explorer by Ahrefs to determine how difficult it is to rank for keywords. Another splendid (and more affordable tool) is KWfinder. This is a beginner-friendly tool that color codes assigns every keyword a number from 1-100. The higher the number, the harder it is to rank for that keyword.

Use Short Descriptive URLs

This one is straightforward. Simple and explanatory URLs are wonderful. Here are their benefits: they look better, they’re more helpful to your readers, and there may be a small SEO benefit to using them. Moz has more tips that will help you write efficacious URLs.

Install a Caching Plugin

Whether it’s the Roadrunner who battles Wile E. Coyote or Sonic the Hedgehog, speed has always been admired in our culture. This is doubly true when it comes to website speed. Blue Corona says it best, “40% of people will abandon your website if it takes longer than three seconds to load.” A caching plugin is a handy tool that helps you speed up your website. Without getting too technical, a caching plugin serves static HTML web pages to your customers, pages which load in an instant. A premier caching plug-in is the WP-Rocket.

Fix Broken Links

Broken links on your website can damage your SEO efforts. Basically, Google lowers websites in search engine ranking results that have broken links. Check out the ultimate guide to fixing broken links. If you already know how to fix them, then use the Broken Link Checker to discover what needs fixing.
