Blues and Greens to Dominate Home Décor This Year

If you’re a fan of bold vibrant blues and greens, then you’re in luck: they will dominate in home décor this year, according to leading color expert groups.

When it comes to which shade of blue is forecast to be most dominant, The Color Marketing Group, a not‐for‐profit international association of color design experts who forecast color, says it’s a warmer, tropical, watery blue with a touch of green.  Global and environmental factors drive the color movement.

Blues are relaxing and calming — an excellent choice for bedrooms. But experts say if you choose the wrong hue, the blue can feel depressing and distant. Blue is always a popular color, but rather than the traditional political and Olympic blues, this year’s blue is warmer and more reminiscent of water.

“Color needs to reflect our mood, desires and state of mind. This fresh, true blue can be as energizing as it can be soothing. It's just the right hue  for moving forward." says CMG’s President, Mark Woodman of Global Color Research Limited.

Meanwhile, paint company Behr has also honed in on blue. The company, on its web site, says deep, rich jeweled blues — think sapphire, lapis, and cobalt, will be used in conjunction with aqua, turquoise, and coral.

But blue isn't alone.

The Pantone Color Institute is singling out emerald green as the color of Spring 2013.

“Green is the most abundant hue in nature – the human eye sees more green than any other color in the spectrum,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®. “As it has throughout history, multifaceted Emerald continues to sparkle and fascinate. Symbolically, Emerald brings a sense of clarity, renewal and rejuvenation, which is so important in today’s complex world. This powerful and universally appealing tone translates easily to both fashion and home interiors.”

It’s easy to incorporate these rich, vibrant colors into your home without costing a lot of money. You can create a rich, opulent feel with emerald green in an entryway, powder room, dining room or study. Aqueous blues can liven up a kitchen or bathroom and blue and emerald dinnerware or appliances can give personality to your kitchen.
