Comic actor, writer and talk-show host Dennis Miller and wife Carolyn Espley-Miller have listed their beach home in Carpinteria for $22.5 million.
Set on more than half an acre along 63 feet of sandy beach, the 6,320-square-foot home was designed by architect Don Nulty and built in 2001. Since remodeled, the light and bright house features a two-story-plus entry with a pitched ceiling, a blue stone fireplace in the great room, white-washed ceiling beams and French doors that open to ocean-view terrace space.
“We joke that no work ever gets done, because we’re either staring at the view or talking on the phone about how beautiful the view is,” Carolyn told House Beautiful. “I had such a strong vision of a serene, whitewashed house on the sea. So I just gave the whole place a big dollop of white, from floors to ceiling.”
The East Coast-vibe living spaces include a library/den with a bay window, a wine cellar, an office, five bedrooms and 5.5 bathrooms. A guest apartment has its own exterior staircase, a kitchenette and a bathroom. There are a total of six fireplaces.
Miller, 61, appeared in the 2013 series “Forever Young” and “House of Cards.” He has written for several shows and series bearing his name and hosts a daily radio program. The stand-up comic gained fame as a “Saturday Night Live” cast member from 1985 to 1991.
Riskin Associates at Village Properties, an affiliate of Christie’s International Real Estate, is the listing agent.
“Besides it being right on the sand, the Padaro location is the crème de la crème of beach locations for this area,” Riskin Associates's Dina Landi said.
