On Veterans Day U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Edward Cummings was handed the keys to his family’s brand new mortgage free home as part of celebrations at Veterans Day weekend in Leesville, Louisiana. Made possible by Fairway Independent Mortgage Corporation, the gift was but one such endeavor by Fairway and other groups supporting America’s heroes.

Staff Sgt. Cummings was a scout platoon leader wounded in engagements in Afghanistan after the 911 attacks. Forced to undergo months of rehabilitative physical therapy, Cummings requested re-deployment to serve out his tour in Afghanistan.
Fairway’s gift of mortgage-free homes is made possible by many people and organizations, in the case of Staff Sgt. Cummings , by Fairway employees, the Boot Campaign and the Military Warriors Support Foundation’s Homes 4 Wounded Heroes program. Cummings and his family are the fifth family to be awarded one of these “mortgage free” houses. Along with his family’s new home, Sgt. Cummings and his family will receive three years of family and financial mentoring from Chase Bank, which donated the home.
Veterans eligible for these awards include combat wounded veterans or unmarried Gold Star spouses of Operation Enduring Freedom or Operation Iraqi Freedom veterans who apply here.
