GetSafe rethinks home security for the modern age

By Mike Wheatley | January 19, 2016

Home security vendor GetSafe has launched a new kind of home security alarm aimed at first time homeowners and renters alike. The new GetSafe Starter Kit is billed as a DIY home security system that breaks many of the rules found in traditional alarms to provide a fresh take on home security.

Kevin Magna, General Manager of GetSafe, said the idea was to rethink home security and create a smarter security system more appropriate for today's lifestyles.

As such, GetSafe's alarms can all be controlled via a Smartphone, which acts as the nerve center of your home security system.

“In a mobile-friendly world, you shouldn’t have to run to a keypad and punch in a security code every time you enter or exit your home,” Magna said.

The company is also keeping things simple with a month-to-month contract service, as opposed to the long-term contracts that most security companies try to tie customers into.

“If you offer good service, you shouldn’t need to lock the customer into a contract,” says Alan Wu, Marketing Manager for GetSafe.

As for the “Do It Yourself” aspect of the GetSafe security system, this means customers don't need to pay extra for an engineer to come and install the system in their home. The unit is wireless and can be mounted using peel-and-stick tape. There are no wires running from it and it doesn't need to be secured to the home with nails or screws, which makes it ideal for those who rent their homes and can't make proper modifications. Another advantage of this is that customers can take their GetSafe alarm with them should they move to a new property.

In addition, GetSafe is customizable, allowing for more sensors to be attached to it if required.

“We want our customers to stay with us for life,” says Wu. “So we designed a system that you can take with you when you move, and change as your home changes.”

GetSafe is offering its starter kit for just $249, complete with a motion detector and two door or window sensors. The company also offers professional security monitoring services for an additional fee of just $29 per month, with the option to purchase additional sensors as required. Additional upcoming features include a video camera that can be linked to the GetSafe, as well as CO2 and smoke detectors.
