Mandalay Bay shooter Stephen Paddock's homes go on sale

Two properties that formerly belonged to Mandalay Bay hotel shooter Stephen Paddock are to be sold, with all the proceeds of the sales going to his victims, reports say.

Paddock's former Mesquite, Nevada, home

Paddock’s former homes are located in the Reno and Mesquite Bay areas of Las Vegas, priced at $449,000 and $399,000 respectively.

Paddock, who was 64, opened fire on hundreds of concert attendees during the Route 91 Harvest Festival last October, spraying the area with bullets from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel. He killed 58 people and injured hundreds more, in what was the deadliest mass shooting incident in modern America. Paddock later shot himself dead before police could arrest him.

The listing descriptions of both properties state: “This was Stephen Paddock’s house. All net proceeds go to the victims [sic] families. This is an estate sale and is subject to court approval.”

In the state of Nevada real estate listings are not required to disclose that the property was previously owned by a notorious person, but nonetheless, court officials handling the sale have decided to do so. The homes were listed as part of Paddock’s probate case, after his heir and mother decided to transfer his assets to the estates of his victims.

It’s not clear if Paddock’s notoriety will have an impact on the price of the homes, though one real estate expert insisted it was likely. It's worth noting that both properties have been listed at above average prices.

Randall Bell, a real estate appraiser with Landmark Research Group in Laguna Beach, California, told realtor.com that Paddock’s notoriety was “so despicable that the real estate will be impacted.”

Experts also told the Las Vegas Review Journal that the property could fetch a handsome price due to a morbid fascination.
