Memphis, a city with more sunny days per year than Miami still has its share of cold weather. Whether the sun is out or it’s a brisk day, there are always places to be highly entertained in Memphis. Memphis in the winter is packed with plenty of things to do both indoors and out. Making the weather unimportant for those relishing the city and surroundings.
You’ll have your cultural and showbiz senses tantalized when the best and brightest Broadway touring shows pack the Orpheum Theater. The upcoming hit list includes The Illusionists - Live From Broadway, Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson - An Astrophysicist Goes to the Movies, The Mersey Beatles: Four Lads From Liverpool - Get Back Tour (Halloran Centre), and Beautiful - The Carole King Musical.
Memphis is full of cultural museums and historic sites for the family to take in. Another is the Brooks Museum of Art with nearly 9,000 works of art from all time periods. The Brooks Museum inspires and ignites a fire in your soul.
Memphis offers a ton of children friendly attractions such as the Pink Palace Museum with plenty of events and permanent exhibits. The Pink Palace bills itself as “Lively Learning for All”. Or check out the CTI 3D Giant Theater. Just down the street is the Children’s Museum of Memphis where kids go hands-on with a FedEx flight simulator or burn off steam on the disco floor.
Of course, if it is your first time in Memphis or you haven’t visited the star attractions in a while, some of Memphis’s Best are great indoor venues during the winter. These include: Gibson Guitar Factory tour, Memphis Rock ‘n’ Soul Museum – a Smithsonian Institute project, Graceland, Sun Studio, and Stax Museum of American Soul Music.
There’s no denying that you’ll be culturally stimulated and highly entertained with what Memphis offers indoors during the winter.
Do you want to see one of the nation’s best zoos on its cool side? Slide into the Memphis Zoo on Ice, which offers the only tented outdoor ice skating rink in the Mid-South. Also, enjoy a steaming cup of coffee while enjoying the festivities in Teton Trek – a Yellowstone National Park inspired lodge on the zoo grounds.
Golf is a year round sport in Memphis. Among the premiere public golf courses is the Mirimichi established by Justin Timberlake. Or train indoors at the Callaway Performance Center.
