Muhammad Ali Sues Previous Owners Of His Home

By Mike Wheatley | October 17, 2011

Ex-World Heavyweight boxing champion Muhammad Ali, AKA “The Greatest”, is not at all pleased with his new Louisville, Kentucky, retirement home, and he is holding the former owner responsible for not disclosing a number of problems.

Ali (probably the last person you’d want to be pissed at you), and his wife Lonnie Ali, are suing the previous owners of the home, claiming they should have disclosed numerous problems with the property before the Ali’s bought it. Mohammad Ali "pulled no punches" as he detailed a wide range of problems, including poor insulation, water intrusion, roof and chimney leaks, mold, damp, poor ventilation and a whole lot more besides, reports Whas11.com.

The previous owners are guilty of fraud, Ali alleges in his lawsuit. According to him, they signed statements before the transaction that they knew to be false. However, the ex-owners of the property retorted that the lawsuit was a “complete surprise”, adding that in their opinion, the property suffered from no serious conditions or defects that couldn’t be resolved easily enough.

Mohammad Ali and his wife paid $1.9 million for the home back in 2006. According to Ken Jones, who represented the previous owners in the deal, the home was not listed on the market at the time Mr. Ali and his wife made their offer.

“We insisted on an inspector. They had an inspection done. There were several items noted.”

These problems were later corrected, before the deal went through, added Jones.

We'll be interested to see how many rounds this "Rumble in the Courtroom" lasts for!
