Planning Your Move: What To Keep And What To Throw Out

By Guest Author | December 5, 2016

Relocating your home can be a tough and agonizing process. Moving provides its challenges with packing up personal belongings and staying organized. To ensure that you enjoy an efficient process, it's important to know what items to keep and others that should be thrown out. Don’t waste your time packing and unloading unnecessary items that provide no purpose to your life.

Throw Out Broken Electronics

You’ll free up your moving boxes by throwing or donating electronics. You may have an old computer or a DVD player that no longer works and you've been meaning to fix, throw it out. It's often more affordable and easier to replace the products, especially if they're outdated or taking up too much room. Alternatively, you may bring those old electronic devices to a copper recycling center or a data center recycling company.

Keep Appliances

If your appliances are in good working condition and still operate, it's best to keep the items and use them in your new home. Although the appliances can be difficult to transport, you can hire a company like Midway Moving & Storage to transport the items to ensure that you avoid injury or breaking anything in the process.

Toss Unused Clothing Items

Throw away unused items that haven't been used in at least a year. Although you may want to hold onto certain clothing items or accessories that you can use in the future, you'll likely no longer need them if they haven't been used in a significant amount of time. Opt for having a garage sale where you can sell the clothing or even donate them to ensure that you can have less to move and also clean out your closet in the process.

Sturdy Furniture Pieces

The most valuable items that you own are likely the furniture items that are used in each room of your home. Keep the furniture pieces that are durable and will likely last for several years. This will allow you to transport items that are the most needed and will ensure that you fill up the new space that you move into.

When it's time to move and transport all of your possessions to a new property, it can be a daunting task when it comes to packing up everything into moving boxes. To ensure that you have a safe and efficient process, it's important to make a list of different items that you plan to keep and throw out. You'll lessen the load as you move and can also enjoy having less clutter in your new home.
