Moving into downtown Toronto puts you in the heart of one of the hottest real estate markets on the planet. However, the hardest part of the decision, is should you buy in the core or one of the outer neighborhoods.
Living in the Core
If you want to be at the heart of the action, "The Core" is where you want to be. Most of the condos here are quite new, with many more under construction. Living here puts you within walking distance of many of the finest restaurants in the city. There are plenty of concerts throughout the year to attend and enough public transit to take you anywhere you want to go. The nightlife in the core is one of the area's biggest attractions. There are plenty of bars, nightclubs, and pubs to go around. It won't take long before your friends living out in the 'burbs start begging to come your way to enjoy the nightlife without having to deal with the traffic. One thing to keep in mind is that because of the popularity of the Core, you can expect condo prices to be a little higher here than they are further out away from the action.
Looking Outside
If you like quiet neighborhoods, you might prefer to be further out from the Core. If you choose a condo near a GO station or subway line, commuting into downtown is easy and fast. These neighborhoods are ideal for those who work outside of the Core or simply prefer a quieter lifestyle. One of the biggest advantages to buying a condo out away from the Core is the price you are likely to pay for many of the condos. There are a few neighborhoods where you might find the prices are higher, especially those near the lake. You still have plenty of amenities close at hand, including great restaurants, excellent schools, superb parks, and lots of shopping. No matter how good the public transportation is, no one truly likes the idea of having to commute. This is by far one of the biggest drawbacks to living in the suburbs. Of course, if you go downtown for concerts, a ball game, or out for a night on the town, getting home will be a little tougher than it would be if you purchased a condo in the Core.
It’s Not an Easy Decision
When it comes to buying one of the many downtown Toronto condos, the market in this part of Canada will cost you, but for the young professional or family, living here may be worth the money. If you prefer a little peace and quiet away from the heart of the city, buying out in the suburbs may be a better option. There is no right or wrong decision; it is something that is personal based on your individual needs, tastes, and desires. Be sure to give the subject lots of thought before you spend your hard-earned money.
