Want More Sex Appeal? Try Homeownership

By Mike Wheatley | February 15, 2012

Those of you still looking for a romantic partner would do well to pay attention. Apparently, there is no aphrodisiac quite as alluring as homeownership, at least according to one recent survey.

Out of a total of 1,000 singles polled recently, over a third of all women and 18% of male respondents said that dating a homeowner was much more attractive than going with a renter, reported CNN Money.

More tellingly perhaps, only 2% of females said that they would rather date a renter, according to the survey conducted by Harris Interactive on behalf of Trulia.com. Women too, had better take note. You might be tempted into thinking that guys aren’t so choosy when it comes to a woman’s status, so long as she looks the part, but in actual fact only 3% of men said they would choose a renter over a homeowner.

Anyone who shares a home is also going to be out of luck. According to the Trulia survey, 62% of respondents said they would prefer to date someone who lived alone.

The survey also provided grim news for anyone still living at home with mom and dad. While the number of young adults who have ended up living back at home following graduation has gone through the roof in recent years, their sex appeal most definitely has not. The harsh truth is that, according to the survey at least, less than 5% of singles would like to go out with anyone still living at home.

One interesting part of the survey was that Trulia quizzed respondents on which features of a home turned them on the most. According to the poll, if you really want to ‘make a splash’ with your date, the ultimate feature is a master bath – which 75% of women and 64% of men claimed was an immediate turn on.

Aside from that, other features that are sure to entice members of the opposite sex are walk-in closets (72% of women and 55% of men found them appealing) and gourmet kitchens (62% of women and 51% of men).

Surprisingly though, anyone who thinks that owning a hot tub is an ultimate babe magnet had better think again – just 22% of women and 26% of men said they would be seduced by this somewhat old fashioned amenity.
