El Paso is a relatively safe area of Texas. It is ranked at 13th on the FBI’s most dangerous cities in Texas. The murder rate  is about 1.4 per 100,000. Compare that to Houston that took the 3rd spot on the list. Its murder rate hovers around 5.9 per 100,000.
