Wearable Technology for Monitoring Pet Health

Many people have assistance dogs to help improve their lives and in some circumstances, they can provide assistance that saves lives. Just recently, International Assistance Dog Week raised awareness of the importance of assistance dogs and PetPace has developed wearable technology especially for dog owners.

This wearable technology helps improve the role played by pet owners in monitoring their pet’s health. According to the press release, PetPace’s Health Monitoring Solution allows assistance dog owners to track vital signs including heart rate variability, temperature, pulse rate and respiration, as well as activity and calories. The wearable tech sends alerts to the owner through a smart phone app if any of these parameters significantly change and indicate a problem. The idea behind inventing a smart collar was to noninvasively monitor a pet’s health, quickly identifying any concerns and monitoring any existing medical conditions.

As well as providing smart phone alerts, the mobile app provides an in-depth look into nearly every metric of a pet’s health. Data is displayed in an easy to read graphical interface so owners can easily understand and monitor specific aspects of their pet’s health and well-being over time. The company feels this wearable technology is particularly useful for owners caring for older pets or for pets that already sick, including cats.

Last month, PetPace released a new PetPace Bio-Response TM platform which is designed to create an association between events in the pet’s life with physiological and behavioral data collected by their smart collar. The system utilizes advanced analytics to help detect patterns in the data providing insight into the pet’s condition in relation to the event.

Dr. Asaf Dagan, chief veterinarian of PetPace said “We're pushing forward with the creation of new technology solutions, able to identify diseases and other damaging factors that affect pet health. We feel strongly that this technology will dramatically improve the health of pets, including those assisting people on a daily basis.”
