Survey Names Voice Control as Being the Next Big Thing

According to a new survey from Coldwell Banker Real Estate LLC and Vivint Smart Home, Americans are set to embrace voice control and an increasing number are already using this feature. The survey was conducted in November last year amongst 4108 adults in the US and 923 of the participants already had smart home products.

The survey found that 72% of Americans who already have smart home products that are controlled remotely by tablet, computer, smart home or by a separate automatic system within the home, also want voice control. Out of this group 81% who have smart home products wants to control these products with voice activation. It also found that 48% of Americans with smart home products already have voice control capability.

Apparently, most of these consumers want to use voice control to control smart entertainment systems, with 57% citing this as their main reason. They want to be able to use the feature to control smart TVs and speaker systems or to play music. The next three most popular s to be controlled by voice activation for smart home product owners are lighting, security products and shopping, all of which came in at 33%.

Sean Blankenship, chief marketing officer for Coldwell Banker Real Estate LLC said “We’re not surprised that so many Americans want to be able to use their voice to control smart home products because it makes for a much more intuitive user experience. As the smart home leader in real estate, Coldwell Banker is at the forefront of smart home trends and we’re hearing directly from our agents that their clients are demanding voice control to make their smart home experience more seamless.”

In 2015 Vivint Smart Home announced its integration with Amazon Echo and Jeff Lyman, chief marketing officer for the company said “We’ve been blown away with how consumers are unlocking the full potential of a voice-controlled smart home. By simply saying aloud what they want to happen with their locks, lights, thermostats and security system, customers spend more time living and less time managing. The experience is pretty magical.”
