A Look at the Top Security Options for Your Property

Because you work hard for your money, you want to know that the purchases you make are safe and secure in your home. Unfortunately, that’s not always the case. According to statistics, 88% of all burglaries that occur are residential. With that said, three out of four homes in the U.S. alone will be broken into over the next 20 years. The most commonly stolen items are cash, jewelry, gold, and watches among other items.

What this means for homeowners is that it's important to look for ways to protect your property and your belongings from theft. Here’s a look at some of the top security options you can take that will help ensure your property remains safe and sound.

Install a Hidden Safe
Rather than just purchasing a typical safe that you keep in a closet or storage room, you may want to consider having a hidden safe installation. These safes are perfect for storing diamond jewelry, precious family heirlooms, and documents. A hidden wall safe is built into the wall itself and is usually covered by artwork of some kind. No one will suspect it’s a safe, which means your items will remain secure.

Invest in a Home Alarm System
A home alarm system is usually a wise investment as well. It doesn’t matter if you live in a neighborhood that is prone to break-ins or not, a system can act as a wonderful deterrent to possible thieves. Not only that, it can also offer you a discount on your home insurance rates. Many of today’s systems allow you to monitor your home even if you’re away since they are compatible with smartphones and tablets.

Don't Hide a House Key Outdoors
Even though you may think you're hiding a house key in a spot that "no-one will find" you are taking a big risk by placing one outside. Burglars are aware of all these common hiding spots. A better option would be to place it in a key lock box outside. These require a code to open them.

Do Regular Checks of Doors and Windows
You will also want to be sure you do regular checks of all the doors and windows in your house. Make sure the locks are working properly and that the doors and windows are secure. If you discover that any locks or hinges are broken, replace them immediately.

Make Sure the Property is Well-Lit
Another tip is to make sure the exterior of your home is well lit. You can purchase motion detector lights and install them around windows and doors. If there are any dark places on your property where someone could hide, be sure to light these areas up.

Take the Proper Safety Measures
By using the tips above, you will be helping to ensure that your property remains safe and secure. It’s a good idea to stay vigilant at all times and ensure that you’re always adhering to the most up-to-date safety measures.
