An iconic 17-story hotel tower piercing the Maryland skyline, luxury penthouses perched atop, a vast gaming floor humming with excitement, and a 40,000-square-foot event center alive with activity. This is Live! Casino & Hotel Maryland in Hanover: a dazzling fusion of gambling allure and real estate prowess. Since its $200 million expansion in 2019, this Cordish Cos. masterpiece has turned a quiet spot next to Arundel Mills mall into a bustling “regional destination,” pulling in crowds from D.C. to Baltimore and reshaping Anne Arundel County’s property landscape. Here’s why it’s a spotlight worth shining.
Looks and Design: A Towering Triumph
The Live! Hotel tower stands out with its sleek, 17-story silhouette, one of the tallest structures in Anne Arundel County. Its glass exterior sparkles by day and glows warmly at night, a modern marvel amid suburban sprawl. Step inside, and you’re greeted by a 300,000-square-foot casino floor, where vibrant neon lights meet plush decor, blending energy with elegance [2]. Marble touches, chic furnishings, and clever lighting elevate the vibe, making every visit feel like a getaway.
How It Got Made: A Bold Bet on Hanover
The journey began in 2011 when Cordish Cos. laid the groundwork, opening the casino in June 2012 [1]. The real transformation hit in 2018-2019, fueled by a $200 million expansion that added the hotel, event center, and penthouses [3]. Building a towering resort beside a busy mall wasn’t easy, but Cordish’s vision paid off, crafting a hub that now anchors the Baltimore-Washington corridor. It’s a tale of ambition meeting execution.
Money Impact: A Jackpot for the County
Live! Casino & Hotel Maryland is an economic dynamo, investing in local impact grants, boosting schools, nonprofits, and more with other state casinos through taxes [4]. It employs thousands, lures millions of visitors annually, and pumps vitality into Hanover. Real estate has felt the ripple too, with property values near Arundel Mills climbing as new businesses and hotels emerge to catch the wave. In April 2025 alone, Maryland casinos notched $162.6 million in gaming revenue, with Live! at the forefront [5]. Profits flow to Cordish while enriching and benefiting the neighbourhood.
Gaming Paradise: A Player’s Dream
Casino lovers, take note: Live! boasts approximately 4,000 slot machines, from penny spins to big-stakes thrills, sprawled across its massive gaming floor. Add over 200 live-action table games, and you’ve got variety galore [6]. The Orchid Gaming & Smoking Patio, Maryland’s first outdoor gaming space, ups the ante with a fresh twist [7]. It’s a high-energy haven where every roll, spin, and deal keeps the excitement rolling.
Special Stuff: Beyond the Tables
What makes Live! shine brighter? Its extras dazzle. Various event halls host concerts, graduations, and more, while luxury penthouses offer VIPs stunning views and plush comfort [8]. Dining spans 24-hour eats at David’s, including gelato and cocktails, with a spa and fitness center rounding out the resort feel. It’s not just a casino, it’s an all-in escape that blends gaming with indulgence.
Why It Matters
From slots and tables to skyline-changing development, this real estate property now dominates as a mixed-use titan. Live! Casino & Hotel’s ambitious development, financial impact, and crowd-pulling power converted an ordinary mall-adjacent site into a regional catalyst, reshaping Hanover. While visitors enjoy the thrills, the community benefits from economic stimulation, and industry observers see a masterclass in destination development. This is more than a building: the new gold standard for entertainment-based real estate.
