Scotland has some 270,000 rental properties

Scotland has just set up a new scheme designed to safeguard rental deposits, which came into force just yesterday. The private rental sector in Scotland consists of 273,000 households, which between them have deposits worth more than £75 million, according to Scottish housing minister Keith Brown.

Latest figures show home ownership levels in the UK have fallen to their lowest levels since the 80s when Thatcher was in power. Nine years ago 71% of homes were owner occupied, but now that figure has fallen to just 66%, with one in three households either in social housing or renting from a private landlord.
