UK startup unveils a self-deploying home that erects itself in just 8 minutes

It’s not easy building a home by yourself. Not only is it very expensive to buy the land and construction materials necessary to actually build it, but it can also be very time-consuming.

Wouldn’t it be great if, you know, houses could just build themselves for a fraction of the price?

Well, U.K.-based startup Ten Fold Engineering seems to think so, and now its touting a solution – a self-deploying home that can effectively ‘make itself’ within just eight minutes. The company’s buildings are pre-fabricated, driven to the appropriate site, then all you have to do is push a button and relax as it deploys itself.

Once the home has successfully unfolded itself, the only thing that remains is to secure it with an electric drill, the company said.

Even better, its buildings, which measure around 689 square feet, can not only serve as homes but also as offices, medical clinics and camping shelters, among other uses.

The buildings can also be redeployed at any time the owner wants. All they have to do is push another button and it will fold itself back up, ready to be moved (don’t forget to remove the furniture first!). The structures are lightweight enough that they can easily be transported by a regular truck, the company added.

Prices are not too bad either – the homes start at just $129,330, and can be ordered directly from Ten Fold’s website.
