Home Improvement: 4 Quick Ways to Transform a Room in a Weekend

Whether it’s a color transformation, adding some depth or texture to a room or bringing life to worn or outdated furniture, there are all kinds of DIY home remodeling projects that you can tackle in a weekend or less.

Shades of Gray, or Any Other Color

One of the easiest, least expensive ways to alter the look of a room dramatically is to introduce a new paint color. Color conveys mood. Blues and greens are soothing colors and are a popular choice for bedrooms and bathrooms. Red brings excitement and energy, a good fit for the dining room. Yellow gives off a cheerful vibe.

But for those who follow trends, the National Kitchen and Bath Association reports that hues of gray have become increasingly popular in recent years. A more sophisticated look, grays are popular in both the kitchen and the bathroom. They were used in more than half the kitchen and bathroom projects last year.

No Backlash From a New Backsplash

While it seems intimidating to many, installing a backsplash in the kitchen or bathroom adds depth and texture. While tile and stone have been a traditional favorite for this DIY home remodeling project, glass backsplashes are gaining in popularity. There are a multitude of options available.

Whiten the Cabinets

If you’re tired of the dingy, stock cabinets that line your kitchen, consider painting them. One of the most effective ways to lighten up or create a simplified, clean look in the kitchen is to paint the cabinets white. White or off-white creates a timeless look. It’s the best choice, too, if you’re planning on selling your house within the next couple years because it’s a neutral color that will appeal to many buyers. Once you choose a color, you can begin painting.

Let Style and Function Runneth Over With a New Faucet

Another weekend project suitable for the kitchen or bathroom is a faucet. Transitional design is becoming increasingly popular in faucets. This means the faucet is sleek and stylish, but also highly al.

One type that is gaining in popularity is the kind with a pull-down head that can run full-stream or spray. After the faucet is pulled down, it reattaches easily. A single lever makes it a cinch to maneuver between hot and cold.
