While there are certainly a few drawbacks to living in Austin – namely the sweltering heat and nightmare traffic, the city’s vibrant music and food scenes easily make up for it and are well-worth any other troubles that come with living here.

Whether you’re moving from another region in Texas, or coming in from out of state, it’s a good idea to consider hiring a professional moving company. You can check company websites online such as http://www.applemoving.com to help you out with your move.

Not only does hiring a professional moving company make your move easier for you, it will also save you a lot of time and frustration since you’re moving to a new city that you’ve never lived in before.

Still, before packing up all your belongings and making the move, it’s a good idea to learn a little bit about the city and what it has to offer. Below, we’ll go over five of the most important things to know about living in Austin, Texas.

Welcome to the “Live Music Capital of the World”

One not-so-well-known fact about Austin is that it’s considered as the Live Music Capital of the World.

In fact, every year in March, thousands of tourists flood the city to attend South by Southwest, the city’s annual music and film festival. There’s also Austin City Limits, another massive music festival where tons of up-and-coming talent get their big breaks.

And, since the city is known for its live music, it’s likely that all your favorite bands will make a stop in Austin at some point or another.

As for Austin’s weekly nightlife, there’s no shortage live music either. Almost any day of the week, you’re sure to catch a local band playing at any one of the city’s popular live music venues.

The Rumors About the Texas Sun are True

For most people, Austin is known to have amazing weather throughout most of the year. But when the summer months of July and August come around, it’s not unusual to see the average temperature reach up towards 100 degrees.

This kind of heat can be rather stifling. But fortunately, Austin has an abundance of swimming holes and local public pools that you can take advantage of for a quick dip to cool off.

Zilker Park in downtown Austin features a natural spring that stays at a refreshing 68 degrees year-round. Or, you can try getting out on Lake Travis for some swimming, boating and tubing fun!

The Food Scene is Amazing

Austin is known for having an exceptional food scene. In fact, the city is famous for its delicious tacos, mouth-watering margaritas, and of course, its authentic Texas-style barbeque.

The city is also famous for having a large community of food trucks and its restaurants are always serving up something tasty for brunch or offering happy hour discounts.

Traffic Can Be A Nightmare

Austin is a city that continuously draws in new residents, which unfortunately, is causing a lot of strain on the city’s local infrastructure.

Since the city only has two main arteries for traffic, rush hours can be pretty miserable if you find yourself needing to commute during them.

Most locals recommend finding a job first, before deciding on where to live to help you plan your commute accordingly. In fact, many people who work downtown claim that living there is well worth the extra cost just to be closer to where they work.

Living in Austin Can Be Expensive

They say that everything is bigger in Texas. And that includes the cost of getting around and doing things in Austin. Of course, that all depends on where you decide to live and what type of events you like attending.

Living outside of Central Austin is the best way to go in terms of affordability. However, if you’re looking to avoid commuting through the city’s nightmare traffic every day, you might want to fork out the extra cash to find a place in one of Austin’s central regions.

On the other hand, the overall cost of living in Austin is much cheaper than other similar cities like Boston, New York, or Los Angeles.
