5 Tips For Maintaining Your Lawn Without Breaking The Bank

By Kara Masterson | March 30, 2017

Lawns are a source of pride for homeowners, and you understandably want your yard to be the envy of your neighbors. However, professional lawn services can cost a small fortune. You may be looking for great ways to save money on lawn care while achieving beautiful results. These are some helpful, money-saving tips that you can implement for immediate results.

Do the Work Yourself

While lawn care services may save you time and energy, they cost you money. In many cases, the homeowner can do the same quality of work as a professional lawn service can, so this service is simply a convenience. Plan time to care for your lawn each week for the best results.

Adjust the Height of Your Lawn Mower Blade

Many people adjust the height of the lawn mower blade downward so that the grass blades are shorter. This may lengthen the time between lawn mowing services to save you time and energy. However, it also causes more evaporation of water in the grass, and it ultimately means that you will need to water more frequently and heavily to keep your lawn green and lush. It is wise to raise your lawn more blades to that the grass height is higher.

Water the Lawn When Needed

Many people water their lawn religiously, such as every Tuesday and Friday. Some have a timed irrigation system that turns on with a regular schedule. While this can be convenient, it is not ideal for cost savings. The heat, humidity, cloud cover and other factors can impact how moist your lawn stays between watering events. It is best to check your soil to determine when watering is needed.

Use a Natural Fertilizer

Fertilizing your yard may seem like an unnecessary expense. However, a lawn fertilizer program is necessary for a healthy lawn. The last thing you want is to have a yard full of weeds and to have to go through the expense of re-seeding or re-sodding it. A natural fertilizer, such as those offered by Nature Safe, is the best option to consider, and you should plan to fertilize in the spring and fall months for the best results.

Rent Equipment With Neighbors

There may be times when you need to rent special equipment to maintain your yard. For example, you may need to rent an aerator for the lawn or a chainsaw to trim trees. Your neighbors likely have similar needs. A smart idea is to make plans to rent the equipment with a neighbor or two. You can share the equipment over the course of a day for cost savings.

Landscaping is critical for pride of ownership, curb appeal and even property value. However, keeping your yard nice and professional does not have to cost you an arm and a let. You can easily achieve the results you desire in your yard without breaking the bank when you follow these tips.
