CoreLogic: Mortgage delinquencies spike following natural disasters

Natural disasters such as wildfires, flooding and hurricanes are having a considerable impact on mortgage delinquencies, according to new research from real estate analytics firm CoreLogic.

The latest analysis by Edward J. Pinto, A Resident Fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, indicates that FHA continues to fall deeper and deeper into the “red” as a result of an increase in 30 day and 60 day delinquencies.

Is A “Death Spiral” Inevitable For Housing?

One of the most respected housing market analysts around, Laurie Goodman of Amherst Securities Group LP, recently testified before congress that if housing prices fall another 10%, the housing market would likely see a “death spiral” of falling property values and resulting defaults, as more and more home owners watch their property value drop well below what they owe on their mortgage.
