Struggling to sell her home, mainly because all the properties in her neighborhood looked the same, Melanie Gravdal decided to she needed to take drastic action to make her home stand out to prospective buyers, reports MSNBC.

Naturally of course, she thought that it might be a nice idea to “sweeten the deal” with a few drinks. $1,000 worth of free drinks to be exact!

Frustrated with the time it was taking her to sell, Ms. Gravdal called her real estate to suggest that they throw in $1,000 worth of booze and meals from a nearby pub, and knock of $15,000 of the price tag in order to entice buyers to snap up her $450,000, three-bedroom townhouse.

Her marketing slogan? Drink all you want for free just across the street, and then stroll on home in just seconds.

Discussing her unique sales tactic, Ms. Gravdal said:

“We weren’t getting very much traffic because there was so much competition in the market. We live in a place where restaurants and bars are within walking distance so we thought this was a great way to cross-promote the neighborhood and our homes.”

So far, Ms. Gravdal’s novel incentive seems to be working. “In seven weeks, we had just two showings,” she said. “But since we’ve offered the promotion, we’ve had nine viewings.”

As for the pub across the street, Grandpa’s, they too have become taken with the promotion. “It’s a big talking point already,” said Mike Maginot, the bar’s manager.

“Most of the regulars are discussing how they would actually spend the $1,000, though most are saying they would just pop in a couple of times a month, enjoy a meal and be on their way.”
