5 Considerations to Make before Updating Your Property

By Lizzie Weakley | May 3, 2018

Before you embark on a major home renovation, you have to take into consideration the impact it will have on your neighbors. You aren’t the only one that might be inconvenienced by the ongoing construction. Here are some of the considerations that you should make you decide to update your property.

Growing Property Wealth

Have Open Communication
Let your neighbors know what you’re planning on doing at your property. This will give them the opportunity to express any concerns that may have about your renovation plans. You may want to show them the plans and the permits that you’ve obtained. This can help to cut off any complaints that may be made during the construction process.

Watch the Time
Speak to your contractor about the hours that they are allowed to work on your project. Your neighbors won’t appreciate early wake up calls or pounding late at night. Setting these restrictions may cause your project to take a little longer. This may be worth it if you can avoid as many conflicts as possible with your neighbors.

Use Outdoor Lighting Judiciously
Depending on the type of work that’s being completed, outdoor lighting may be required. Make sure that the additional lighting doesn’t shine into your neighbors’ windows. This can be annoying and extremely rude. When the work isn’t being performed, ensure that the lighting is switched off.

Consider the Parking Situation
Take into consideration where all the extra vehicles are going to park in your neighborhood. Speak to your contractor about any concerns that may crop up due to the additional traffic. Consider whether you want to make some room in your driveway to accommodate the workers’ vehicles. This can help to eliminate some of the parking constraints that may exist in your neighborhood.

Install a Good Neighbor Fence
Don’t forget about the benefits of installing a good neighbor fence. This can block out some of the more unsightly aspects of the construction process. Once your project is complete, consider installing a more permanent solution to your fencing needs. Aluminum fencing with Lattice Screening is attractive and durable. A new fence can showcase your house to the best advantage once your renovations are complete.

Once you’ve completed your project, invite your neighbors over to take a look. Thank them for their patience during the construction process. You aren’t the only one that may have had to suffer some hardships through your renovations. Noise and extra traffic may have driven your neighbors to the point of distraction.
