A Baltimore-based commercial real estate firm has brought many of its employees to tears after handing them a huge $10 million Christmas bonus after they helped it to achieve its goal of developing 20 million square feet of office, retail and warehouse space in eight states.
St. John Properties said the $10 million would be distributed among its workers based on their years of service. The average employee will receive around $50,000, it said in a press release.
St. John Properties’ founder and chairman Edward St. John revealed the windfall to employees during the company’s annual holiday celebration on December 7.
“To celebrate the achievement of our goal, we wanted to reward our employees in a big way that would make a significant impact on their lives,” he said. “I am thankful for every one of our employees for their hard work and dedication. I couldn’t think of a better way to show it.”
Employees will also receive their regular end-of-year bonus, the company said.
News of the $10 million holiday bonus quickly went viral, with several major news outlets and newspapers reporting on the story.
St. John Properties is one of the largest commercial real estate firms in the Mid-Atlantic area.
