Across the US this weekend real estate agents will be staging open houses within their local communities as part of the 2011 REALTOR Nationwide Open House Event, which attempts to highlight the advantages of home ownership.
Altogether, around 250 local real estate associations spread across 300 US states will take part in the event, which has been billed as a way for realtors to try and build up home buying momentum, by offering prospective buyers the chance to look around thousands of open homes.
The event first began several years ago, initially in just a few local markets, but since then it has expanded and now takes place in hundreds of towns and cities across the nation.
As well as putting the spotlight on select properties, real estate agents also use the opportunity to explain home ownership’s benefits to the public.
Internationally, several other countries are also embracing the event, including the UK, Canada, France, Sweden, Denmark, Peru and more.
Running for two days over the June 4-5 weekend, the event falls in the middle of what is usually the country’s biggest home buying season.
With home affordability reportedly reaching its highest level since two decades ago, the purchasing power that many individuals have now promises to make this event a winner.
“Both families and individuals can gain massive benefits from home ownership,” says Karen Parking of the Wilmington Regional Association of REALTORS.
“With this event, we hope that we not only educate people, but also assist those people who are determined to buy a home achieve their dream.”
