Peter Ashe unveils futuristic eco-friendly office

By Allison Halliday | June 20, 2011

When Asher Alcobi, founder and principal of Peter Ashe Real Estate, moved his company to 841 Lexington Avenue, he spared no expense to create the ultimate dream office.

Alcobi says "Most people spend more waking hours at work than they do in their homes, so theoretically your work environment should be nicer than your home. I wanted to give my co-workers, and myself, an open environment, with lots of light to help with the creative process."

He worked with world renowned designer Andres Escobar, and spent $350 per square foot on renovations of the 1300 ft.² space. The space is situated on the third floor of the building, and is cleverly designed to optimize natural light.

The 50 LED light fixtures, radiators and entrance door are all sprayed in the Lexus colour-Lexus Pearl White. A particular feature of the reception area is a Luceplan Titanium Pendant Light fixture. The walls are covered in Venetian plaster, while the flooring is a prime resin flooring which is kinder to the environment.

These features give an illusion of a much larger space, and Andres Escobar says "We were able to achieve so much light in the space through transparency. We manipulated the light from outside and inside the office to make it appear bigger."

A neat futuristic feature of this office is the "smart glass" surrounding the conference room. The clear glass turns milky at the flick of a switch whenever privacy is needed, due to a layer of liquid crystal film trapped between two layers of glass that changes state in response to an electrical charge. Everything about these offices is designed to be eco-friendly, and is constructed in either metal or glass so ultimately it can be recycled.

Asher Alcobi founded Peter Ashe in 1992 and combines market expertise with a superior and discreet service. Andres Escobar has been at the forefront of cutting edge interior design for more than 20 years.
