Why you should consider a Progressive Web Application for your business

By Mike Wheatley | April 10, 2017

Anyone considering building a new mobile app for their brokerage or real estate firm should consider the benefits of a progressive web app (PWA) when they do their analysis. Progressive web app technology marries traditional downloadable apps with a mobile-friendly website design that’s able to work on every kind of device and operating system.

Skilled.co, a web development company, recently teamed up with Greenice.net, a custom web development service, to create an infographic espousing the benefits of PWAs. They said the average mobile user access websites four times as often as they do mobile apps in a single month, while many consumers refused to download company apps altogether.

What a PWA does is to transform your company’s website into an application that’s viewable directly from a mobile browser. The technology enables native app features, including push notifications, a mobile-centric interface, and offline functionality.

Skilled.co further outline three key benefits of PWA apps:

  • No downloads: Unlike traditional apps, your customers browsing for homes online or seeking more information about your company won't need to install an app to get an app-like experience on your site.
  • Marketing with your regular URL: You can still use your company's URL to market the functionality of the site, with features that automatically updated on the web rather than through an app.
  • Cheaper: Skilled.co says that PWA will cost you between $6,000 and $20,000, while a native app averages between $20,000 and $80,000, depending on the style and functions you include.

  1. We could not agree more. in fact, we just posted a lengthy article on the benefits of PWA:
We think it's the future of real estate apps based on the research for/experience with building our own at http://www.homepocket.com. Our PWA at mobileweb.homepocket.com is a good example of one for your readers.
