New York state is among the most popular states to live in the entire country. The state offers a wonderful mix of county living packed with stunning natural scenery, all within reach of the country's most populated city - New York City. What this means is that residents can really pick and choose what kind of lifestyle they are after.

1111

It's natural to assume that relocating to New York State would be a very expensive move, but this is where you may be surprised. Sure there are many areas of the state that are quite pricey, but there are also a number of counties that stand out as affordable. So can you in fact afford to move to New York state? Let's take a closer look.

Look at Living Outside the City

When it comes to affordable housing in New York state you will need to look outside New York City. The city itself and anywhere within close proximity will not only be extremely expensive, but very competitive as there always seems to be a shortage of inventory.

Instead it can be a good plan to look at other counties, such as Ulster County. Ulster County is a wonderful area that is located just 90 minutes outside of mid-town Manhattan. And it's not just Manhattan you'll be close to, it's just an hour south of Albany and 3.5 hours from Philadelphia and Boston. You will be close enough to the various cities to visit whenever you like, but you won't have to worry about sticker shock on the housing.

Take Advantage of the Season

Another tip to keep in mind when shopping for a home is that the season in which you are looking will have an impact on pricing. According to Ulster County Real Estate News, spring is typically the most active time of year for listings, which also means you can expect to pay a bit more at this time of year. In terms of the busiest time of year to shop for homes, fall is second. There are plenty of financial advantages to be enjoyed in the fall and there's the fact that you'll get to experience how the communities and homes look in terms of foliage at this time of year.

What About Tax Breaks?

Fall can also work out well for those who are already looking at their year-end taxes and trying to figure out ways they can increase their tax breaks. Ulster County housing can often result in various tax deductions, which helps you out. Just make sure that the purchase is completed, and the house closes before the end of December.

Work on Managing Your Finances

The final tip is one that can be used any time, even if you aren't currently looking for a new home. Being able to afford to live in New York state, or any state for that matter, will take a fair amount of budgeting and managing of finances. Finding ways you can save money and cut back on expenses will make it possible for you to put more money away for your dream home.

There Are Ways to Make it Affordable

Living in New York state doesn't just have to be a dream, it can be a reality when you use tips such as these to help you find an affordable solution.
