Crye-Leike Realtor Jeanne Arthur Helping Memphis Conserve Land and Water

By Press Release | April 22, 2017

Crye-Leike Realtors-East Memphis‎ office Realtor Jeanne Arthur raises awareness of the Wolf River Conservancy and its developing Wolf River Greenway.

Realtor Jeanne Arthur, of Crye-Leike Real Estate Services, is raising awareness of the Wolf River Conservancy and its developing Wolf River Greenway, which will run through Memphis along the banks of the river beginning at the eastern city limit at Germantown and extending west to the Mississippi River just north of Mud Island. “Imagine being able to ride or walk the entire route,” said Arthur, who is the immediate past president and currently sits on the Board of Directors of the Wolf River Conservancy. “You will see land and water and wildlife you have never noticed before.”

The paved and meandering greenway is a “connector” of utmost importance to Memphians in many neighborhoods, as a splendid place to enjoy recreation and as a beautiful way to conserve land and water. “With the recent announcement that the TVA is drilling 5 water wells into lands above our aquifer near the new TVA plant by the river in south Memphis, I think Memphians are finally realizing the importance of protecting our wonderful, inexpensive, and great-tasting water,” added Arthur. “Realtors always say ‘beneath all is the land;’ in Memphis we say, ‘beneath that land is the best water in the country.’ ”

Wolf River Conservancy has been around for thirty-one years and was started by forward-thinkers, including members of the Memphis Board of Realtors (now MAAR).  The greenway was suggested thirty-one years ago but only recently has the plan come to life. Alta Design and Planning, under the direction of Chuck Flink, was selected to design the greenway, which is slated for completion in 2020. The land selection was changed to have a northerly route along the river’s edges of Bartlett, Raleigh and Frayser. Additionally, three major parks in those communities will be improved to help prevent flooding and turned into gorgeous paved trails.

“The economic impact of the finished greenway will pale by comparison to the huge difference it will make in the lives of our citizens,” concluded Arthur. “None of this would  be possible without the dedicated Wolf River Conservancy staff and the many foundations, companies and organizations involved.”
