Scouting Owl makes Virtual real estate tours easy

By Mike Wheatley | February 26, 2016

Real estate agent's lives may have just gotten a whole lot easier, if a new virtual reality-based marketing solution lives up to its billing.

Developed by a team of artists, programmers, filmmakers and real estate marketing specialists, Scouting Owl is a new, interactive and fully immersive virtual reality 360 video solution for marketing both commercial and residential properties. It's billed as a highly advanced, elegant, full-service solution for one of the biggest problems in real estate – showing off properties and generating high-end listings.

Scouting Owl solves these problems by allowing buyers and sellers to edit and digitally remaster videos of their properties so they can be showcased in AR, VR, Web, and mobile applications. Video creators can add a customized voiceover for each video, answering frequently asked questions about the property as viewers are taken for a quick tour. Moreover, as buyers take a look around using Scouting Owl, the software generates essential facts, figures and measurements so they have a very good idea of the size and space available.

“Scouting Owl was born out of necessity,” said lead developer Joseph Profit. “Having been simultaneously a buyer and a seller with rental tenants, trying to balance a family and a cross-country move was a headache. I burned through more than 32 hours of both my life and my agent’s life, only to be misled by wide-angle photographs of the property interiors. At the time, I really wished that my agent had a smarter solution, like Scouting Owl.”

There are other advantages for brokers and agents too. One of the most obvious is it helps them to save time, because agents can now show off multiple properties to multiple clients if need be, avoiding the time and expense of traveling to each property, cutting down on scheduling snafus and those awkward encounters with tenants still living at the property.

Agents can also eliminate the need for expensive 360 video equipment and hosting fees, while at the same time delivering a beautifully rendered 3D model of each property. Scouting Owl is available on any device that offers YouTube, Facebook and Google Cardboard video capabilities, which means expensive equipment like Facebook's Oculus Rift and Samsung's VR recorders are no longer necessary.
